Buffon arrives at FIFA's The Best awards having been nominated for best goalkeeper of the year

Juventus have lost the final of Champions League twice in the last three years.

Buffon collected the best goalkeeper award at FIFA's The Best awards ceremony on Monday, beating the likes of Manuel Neuer, Keylor Navas and David De Gea.

"There's no margin (to change mind) because I'm quite convinced of the choices I've made".

Buffon received Best FIFA Goalkeeper honour while Arsenal and France striker Olivier Giroud was graced with the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal of the year for his stunning strike against Crystal Palace.

"I don't think I can add or take away from what I've already done".

The now 39-year-old has spent over 15-years playing for the Bianconeri, while also recording well over 150 appearances for the Italian national team.

Speaking to Sky Italia, the Juventus stalwart said that he fully intends on bowing out after representing Italy at the 2018 World Cup in June/July.

Although Buffon has consistently reached world football's greatest heights with both club and country, he feels the need to win the Champions League to properly complete his legacy. I am proud of it. "To succeed, we need even more motivation than past year, and we're going to need those also to have a great Champions League campaign".

He's leading Italy in their World Cup 2018 campaign, but has said he's "99.9 percent certain" it will be his last tournament at home or overseas.

'I want to say thanks to all the people who voted for me and I think the a year ago has been a fantastic season for Juventus but it wasn't enough to win in Europe.

'I want to end my career with a big victory.

"In that case, I think Szczesny and I could split time. but with a goalkeeper like him behind me, I think it's normal that I'll be stepping aside next year".
