An entrance to the courthouse is cordoned off as the trial of two women accused of killing the North Korean leader's half-brother Kim Jong Nam is held
He declined to say what that "one thing" is, leaving the White House press corps and Kim Jong Un, a 33-year-old political neophyte with perhaps half-a-dozen nuclear weapons, to guess. Mulvaney said it was the first he had heard about the tweet, but said every bit of it was true.
The interview made headlines all across the Pacific Rim, and remains the leading story on the South Korean Yonhap News Agency website as of this writing.
While the implication is clearly meant to be something along the lines of a calamitous nuclear war, Trump appeared much more interested in elaborating on what in his opinion hasn't worked than offering any specifics on what the "one thing" is.
Tensions between the USA and North Korea have been high, with several threats cast between the states. Although Kim made the comments Saturday they were reported hours after Trump's "only one thing will work" tweet. "Last month, in response to Trump's "Rocket Man" insult", Kim Jong-un referred to the president as a "dotard", while also calling him "mentally deranged", while threatening a return attack if he continued with his worlds. Tillerson, in China, had said the USA is attempting to find a diplomatic solution to the ongoing escalation of tensions with North Korea.
US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis told the US Army to be ready with military options on North Korea, but emphasised that efforts to deal with Pyongyang were being led diplomatically. Meanwhile, North Korea is reportedly preparing a test launch for an ICBM that could potentially threaten the continental US.
Trump said on Saturday he had a good relationship with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson but that Tillerson could be tougher. The Asian country for long has made a mockery of the USA diplomacy. I believe they're trading with North Korea. He was speaking at a conference in Washington last week. The words were seen as a sign that Pyongyang has no intention to back down from its nuclear ambitions at a time when there is broad concern North Korea could carry out a major weapons test in the near future to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party on Tuesday.
North Korea's nuclear weapons are necessary "for defending the destiny and sovereignty of the country from the protracted nuclear threats of the U.S. imperialists", Kim, who is chairman of the party among many other titles, told the party's central committee at a meeting, according to a state media reports published Sunday.
