Angelina Jolie Linked to Bizarre Plot to Capture Warlord Joseph Kony
10 October 2017, 12:30 | Conrad Doyle
Clooney co-founded a project to track war crimes in South Sudan
As head of the Lord's Resistance Army, Kony has a $5 million bounty on his head and is wanted by the worldwide criminal court for crimes against humanity.
The documents, which were shared by French investigative journal Mediapart with The Sunday Times, include a series of emails from Luis Moreno Ocampo, the ICC's chief prosecutor from 2003 to 2012; Jolie's assistant; and Jolie herself.
No, this isn't the plot of Angelina Jolie's next adventure movie: How a glamorous Hollywood actress agrees to serve herself up as bait to lure a murderous African warlord out of hiding so he can be arrested by US special forces. She had gone to the ICC at The Hague, Netherlands to watch him prosecute Thomas Lubanga of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the first person to ever be convicted by the court.
"Apparently you can be embedded with the special forces that are chasing Kony". On his side, Angelina Jolie confirms her motivation: " Brad argues. "She is ready. Probably Brad (Pitt) will go also". "Let's discuss logistics. Much love Xxx", Jolie replied.
He said in one exchange to "invite Kony to dinner and then arrest him", implying Ms Jolie volunteered to be some sort of bait United States forces could use.
Ocampo may have actually considered Jolie's idea, for he was found to have stated in a separate e-mail: "Forget other celebrities, she is the one". However, after Moreno Ocampo responded with, "It will be great to spend moretime with the American troops". The Hollywood superstar's call for Kony's capture came around the same time that Moreno-Ocampo was attempting to arrange her participation in the plot.
Jolie's agent declined to make any comment to Metro yesterday.
Moreno Ocampo, who won just one ICC case in nine years, also reportedly recruited George Clooney and Sean Penn for other cases. He got no response to an email saying: "Dear Angie, I hope you are well". The "Maleficent" star after all revealed in 2010 that she would gladly "take down" certain people, like Kony, if given the chance, as pointed out by Us Weekly. "I miss you", receiving no response from Jolie.
