President Trump 'Not Happy' With Secretary Tom Price's Private Plane Use

Politico: Tom Price's taxpayer-funded private-jet travels mixed business with pleasure

Politico: Price Visited Family Members, Longtime Friends On Private Jet Trips

Donald Trump's Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price used a jet paid for by the US government to visit locations where he owns properties, Politico reports.

Mr Trump said he was "looking into it" after reports emerged that Mr Price had taken 24 flights on private planes for official trips since May. "I'm not happy, and I let him know it", Trump said.

The exchange came days after the same publication reported that Price flew charter airplanes on more than two dozen occasions since last spring, costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. "But we'll see what happens with Mr. Bannon", Trump said.

On Wednesday, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released a letter asking Price for details on his use of "government-owned aircraft for personal travel or private non-commercial aircraft for official travel".

Trump added: "I am not happy about it". According to Politico, the list includes at least two expensive chartered flights to locations where Price's "work responsibilities" were at best minimal, but where - just by accident, of course - he either owned property or had family to visit.

The letter reminded Price and other recipients that official travel for all federal employees must be "by the most expeditious means of transportation practicable", and be in line with an employee's function.

Tesia D Williams, a spokeswoman for the HHS inspector general, told the BBC the agency is reviewing whether it was "potentially inappropriate travel".

Price's use of private flights stands in contrast to his immediate predecessors, Kathleen Sebelius and Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who would typically fly commercial.

Price is not the only member of the Cabinet to be in a precarious position with Trump.

"I'm not going to comment on that because the President hasn't commented publicly", Kellyanne Conway, a senior White House adviser, told reporters.

He has said he will halt private plane travel on official business while the internal review is being conducted. Price is a former GOP congressman from Georgia.

Back in August, the president was asked if he still had confidence in Steve Bannon, then a senior strategist.
