Michelle Williams to Star in 'Venom' Opposite Tom Hardy
The actress, who just this year received an Oscar nomination for her role in Manchester By The Sea, joins the film's uber talented cast with fellow Academy nominee Tom Hardy, and this year's Emmy victor Riz Ahmed.
Sources say Williams would play a district attorney and possibly Hardy's love interest.
Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) penned the Venom script. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing, with Palak Patel overseeing the project for the studio.
One character Williams could be playing is Anne Weying, Eddie Brock's ex-wife who later bonds with the symbiote to become She-Venom.
It's time to celebrate for the fans of Williams and Tom Hardy!
In May, Hardy was announced to play the villain on Twitter by Sony Pictures and will be part of Sony's Marvel Universe - which exists outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"The Night Of" actor Riz Ahmed is also cast in the film, set to be directed by Ruben Fleischer.
Michelle Williams is best known for her Oscar-nominated work in dramas; Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine, My Week with Marilyn and Manchester by the Sea.
Hardy signed on for the role in May (17), but the character was first introduced on the big screen in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, where he was portrayed by Topher Grace. As a result, you have a creature with all of Venom's powers, but none of Eddie Brock's (admittedly limited) morals and scruples.
In the comics, the character of Venom is inherently associated with Spider-Man. Venom is reportedly meant to be an R-rated, sci-fi and horror take on the comic book villain.
"Venom" is set to be released in theaters on October 5, 2018.
