We don't have the official figures just yet, but Mercedes-AMG says that at least 1,000 horsepower and similar amount of torque can be expected from the downright brutal powertrain that will occupy the middle of the auto. It can set off with the front motors doing the bulk of the driving, and the electric motor on the crankshaft supporting for bursts of acceleration.
The lithium-ion battery pack cells, how they are arranged and the system used to cool them are the same as found in the Mercedes Formula 1 vehicle, but the Project ONE boasts far more cells to unlock an all-electric driving mode - the firm claims you'll be able to drive around 15 and a half miles on battery power alone.
The Project One's powertrain comprises a turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 petrol engine and four electric motors.
Project One will be on display at the Frankfurt International Motor Show from 14 - 24 September.
The Project One completes the run from 0-to-125 mph in less than six seconds according to Mercedes
We've been given lots of bread crumbs and some puzzle pieces to piece together by the Mercedes-AMG unit, but arguably this is so far the best look we've had since all the commotion started. The amusing bit is that the model will also feature and all-electric driving mode, during which it will become the first ever FWD hypercar, since only the front axle will receive power. The engine is mated to an electric motor helping sending drive to the rear wheels.
Pretty much everything about the AMG Project One will be cutting edge. Active aero is found at the front too, with an extending front splitter and movable flaps positioned over the front wheels. A second electric motor is integrated with the turbocharger to help spin its compressor as well as recapture wasted exhaust energy.
The Mercedes-AMG Project One also has a very similar look to that of the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR to which it is a spiritual successor of.
Inside is configured for two, with occupants located in place by carbonfibre seats that are incorporated into the car's monocoque construction. It may have an engine lifted from an F1 vehicle, but Project One is still a Mercedes as highlighted by window switches taken from C-Class.
Just 275 examples of the Project One will be built, with each selling for around A$3 million.
