Constable Bijender Bahadur was on duty at forward point along the fence in Arnia sector along the IB when Pakistani Rangers resorted to mortar shelling and small arms fire at about 12.20 am.

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) continued intensified mortar shelling on Sialkot border villages in Harpal and Charwah sectors of Sialkot Working Boundary nearly the whole night (the night between Friday and Saturday).

BSF jawan, Brijendra Bahadur Singh, was hit by a bullet at his abdomen, who later succumbed during evacuation process.

The unprovoked by the Pakistani troops began during the wee hours of Sunday morning. Apart from mortars, Pakistan Army was also resorting to firing with heavy machine guns (HMGs), a BSF official said and added Indian troops gave a "befitting response" to the ceasefire violation from the Pakistani side.

"Unprovoked firing by Pak forces on BSF posts across Jammu IB injured 3 BSF troopers (in Poonch & Jammu districts yesterday)", the Border Security Force (BSF) said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, this was the third violation by Pakistani forces in the Arnia sector in last 2 days. Police said that all injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment.

A report in the Indian Express claims that a mortar shell fired by Pakistan fell on the house of a civilian in Devigarh village; partially damaging the building.

By midnight, the entire border in Arnia sector had become alive with BSF retaliating at all places.

Incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops have increased sharply this year.
