Dante Daniels was allegedly attacked with a hammer by his mother's ex-boyfriend, Deandre Chaney Jr., reports the Daily Mail.

Adding, 'This guy beat my grandson with a hammer. Down to his spine.

Danae and Dante's grandmother Monique Brown said that Dante was trying to save his sister and that was why he was given the most aggressive beating.

Police say the suspect, identified as Dante's mother's ex-boyfriend Deandre Chaney Jr., then turned a hammer and knife on the mother and daughter.

Six days later, Daniels died. She said Brown will probably never see out of her left eye and Danae "will need a lot of help".

Chaney Jr.is facing murder and attempted murder charges.

Dante never made it to his second day of third grade at Oakridge Elementary in South Sacramento, the report said. Salone told detectives that she was "struck at least three times" with a hammer from behind as she went to check on her child.

"Dante gave his heart to a 4-year-old in Southern California, so a four year old lives because of this", she said.

After the assault, cops say Chaney stole the family's vehicle and fled the scene. "So a 4-year-old lives on because of".

He is also said to have used lighter fluid.

His sister and his mother, Elizabeth Stone, both survived the attack.

And the grandmother believes her little one is a hero, even after death.

The Bee, quoting an arrest warrant, said Chaney cut off "his parolee ankle monitor and [hopped] on an Amtrak train bound for Salt Lake City". In 2014, Chaney Jr pleaded no contest to a charge of felony battery with serious bodily injury and in 2011 he pleaded no contest to a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. A charge of lewd acts with a child under 14 have also been tacked on.

A GoFundMe funfdraiser that has raised over $23,000 has been created for the family.
