A little boy was found dead in a van outside of a Florida daycare on Monday night a spokesman for the Orlando Police Department said
Orlando police tell local news outlets they were called to Little Miracles Academy on Monday night and found the child in the van.
When officers arrived about 8:30 p.m., they found the 3-year-old on the floor in the back seat of the vehicle, Mina said. Temperatures in Orlando Monday climbed to 94 degrees Fahrenheit. Police said the driver had left the van in the parking lot after dropping off the children and returning to the first location, according to CNN.
"This is an absolute tragedy which could have been prevented", Mina said Tuesday morning.
She also called the day care, where a worker checked the van, found the boy, and called 911, Mina said.
According to a statement from Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Secretary Mike Carroll, the department is "pursuing every legal option available to cease operations.at both of these facilities".
Family members released balloons into the air to memorialize the child as well-wishers placed stuffed animals and candles at a growing memorial outside the day care center.
