Moscow court shooting: Three dead and four injured after gunfight breaks out at court in Russian capital

Shooting breaks out in Moscow courthouse

Two other criminals and three security officials were left injured during the incident in the Russian city. On the third floor of the courtroom defendants encountered officers of the National Guard.

Five handcuffed defendants attacked their guards as they were being escorted in a lift at the court in a town some 20 kilometres northwest of Moscow, Russia's Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Lawyer Sofia Russkaya told TASS news agency: "We were at a different session when heard shots fired". Three defendants were killed in the shooting, two were gravely injured and hospitalized.

Authorities said the incident took place before a hearing for the gang of nine, who are accused of the murders of 17 vehicle drivers between 2012 and 2014.

Tatiana Petrova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry's Moscow department, told TASS among those wounded were a Russian National Guard officer and two policemen. One of the defendants attacked a guard and tried to strangle the victim while others managed to obtain weapons.

"There was a shootout in the Moscow Regional Court, employees were wounded, I saw a wounded woman - a bailiff", Rubasskaya said.

The case involved 11 defendants in the court and four of them are now dead, reports Reuters. The gangs who are hailing from Central Asia are charged with 17 murders and two attempted murders. The suspects died as they attempted to escape the courtroom.
