Big iPhone 8 reveal: How the virtual home button will probably work

Apple iPhone 8 to be Priced Somewhere Around $999

Apple to Hold Product Launch Event on Sept. 12

According to the report, Apple is ditching the button to make room for a larger screen in one version of the next iPhone. Underneath the dock will be a "thin, software bar in lieu of the home button".

The iPhone 8 should deliver better performance than any other iPhone before, just based on what the 10nm chips in the new iPad Pros can offer.

Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 will probably let you unlock it with facial recognition, and security experts tell Mashable that's a bad idea.

Thanks to a new rumour from Mac4ever, it looks like we can expect Apple to announce everything you need to know about the device on September 12.

The latest and most interesting among them is an iPhone 8 clone that has been popped up in an 8 second video clip. While later iOS updates added more functions to the home button accessed via press-and-hold and double and triple-click gestures, the main function of the button has remained the same for the past decade.

The iPhone 8 will look similar to our imagining of the iPhone in 2020, with a virtually bezel-less screen.

Leaked images from Apple's supply chain in Asia, discovered by Benjamin Gesik, show two other purported iPhone 8 components, including the OLED screen, and the motherboard.

If true this would be the biggest change in iPhone design since the launch of the device in 2007. The display promises to stretch from edge to edge with only a notch in the top for the earpiece and front-facing sensors.

Given that the unveiling of Apple's iPhone 8 has already been delayed because of the rumored difficulties of the developers in integrating the fingerprint scanner under the display, there is a lot of expectations for the upcoming smartphone. As far as the refresh of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are concerned, photos of a couple of iPhone dummy models show Apple devices with a glass backing, meaning the models shown in the pictures could have wireless charging as a feature.

Gurman also reveals a few more details about the hardware: The display has rounded corners, but it doesn't have curved sides a la the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8. The group "Wireless Power Consortium" developed the Qi standard, which is the standard commonly used for wireless charging technology.

Next year, though, Apple is reportedly planning to launch three iPhone models in the coming iPhone cycle. Recent rumors claim that AAPL is switching to facial recognition for its newest iPhone due to trouble placing Touch ID under a display.
