Anthony Scaramucci's rant prompts questions over White House stability

Scaramucci says senior leaders take leak crackdown seriously

Trump tweeted Friday evening that Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly would take over as chief of staff.

Meanwhile, no one in the White House took up for Priebus - including Priebus himself.

Publicly, everyone made the right noises, Trump praising Priebus' six months of service, Priebus welcoming Kelly to his job he was sacked from, and Trump calling Kelly a "true star" of his administration who had don a great job as Homeland Security secretary by staunching illegal immigration.

Priebus presided over a chaotic and disorganized White House, and according to multiple reports, he was widely perceived within the Trump administration as being an ineffective chief of staff. Mattis, the retired Marine general nicknamed "Mad Dog", was on vacation when Trump announced a major policy change on Twitter - that transgender individuals would no longer be allowed to serve in the U.S. military in any capacity.

The move likely signals a greater focus on law and order issues and will put further strain on relations between Trump and the Republican establishment.

Priebus left his post as chairman of the Republican National Committee in January to manage the West Wing.

Trump also tweeted a thanks to Priebus, saying, "We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!". I can't think of a better person than General John Kelly to succeed me and I wish him God's blessings and great success, ' he said.

Trump mentions Priebus in the third tweet.

John Kelly knows what a chief of staff's job is supposed to be. Spicer had adamantly opposed bringing on the NY financier and former Trump campaign fundraiser, multiple sources said. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos also tweeted...

The past 24 hours provided the clearest evidence yet that Scaramucci and Trump, both brash New Yorkers, are cut from the same cloth.

Chief of staff Reince Priebus was sacked after being made the subject of a foul-mouthed tirade by the newly appointed White House communications chief Anthony Scaramucci.

"I resigned and he accepted it", Priebus said to CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Friday, referring to President Donald Trump. "He's a great American".

Mr Spicer, who had been standing in as communications director, had a stormy relationship with the press during his time in office, with his blustering, confrontational style being widely mocked. The president had focused on Kelly in recent days, telling those close to him that he loved the general's star power and that he believed military discipline was what his administration needed. "We were sitting right across from him and he kept a poker face", King said, referring to Priebus. "I think it's healthy".

"What I find to be wonderful is how narratives are set and a lot of it's not true and facts get placed into stories that then get repeated in a different setting".

In his six months at Homeland Security, Kelly has overseen ramped up immigration enforcement.

In a written statement, Priebus said it has been one of the greatest honours of his life to serve the President and the country.
