'I Don't Know Why Everybody Going Along With This': White House Press Speaks Out
The changes will begin to roll out in the near future, the White House indicated.
Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, who was considered for press secretary during the transition period, has not been interviewed, according to people familiar with the process.
Last week, Spicer and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus contacted conservative commentator Laura Ingraham about the role of press secretary and Daily Mail editor David Martosko about the role of communications director, according to Politico. Reporters were simply told "TBD" on Sunday night. Monday's briefing - the White House termed it a "gaggle", a more informal set-up, though it took place in a format much like a briefing - was likewise off-camera, with audio broadcasting forbidden.
The drama comes after weeks of rumors that Trump planned to shrink Spicer's public role after the president's first foreign trip overseas.
Spicer's comment comes the day after Jay Sekulow, a member of Trump's personal legal team, told CBS' Face the Nation that Trump would likely comment on the potential tapes by the end of the week.
The shakeup would cap off Spicer's tumultuous six-month tenure at the White House podium, which made him not only one of the administration's most prominent personalities, but also the face of the White House's unfocused messaging strategy. WHCA President Jeff Mason did not immediately respond for comment.
Spicer's time at the White House briefing room podium in recent weeks has decreased amid rumors that Spicer would soon transition to a different role, with some suggesting the President was unhappy with Spicer's performance in the public-facing role.
"I don't think anything is imminent", the official said. "That is the only conclusion one can draw, that when they give us answers, it somehow reads better in print".
Acosta said, "The White House Press Secretary is getting to a point where he is kind of useless".
Acosta said that for him it does not even feel like journalists are covering the White House anymore, rather it feels like they are covering "bad reality television".
