Britain?s Andy Murray in action during his fourth round match of the French Open against Russia?s Karen Khachanov in Paris, on Monday.

Crisis? What crisis? Just six days after beginning his French Open campaign with question marks over his form and his health, Andy Murray secured his place in the quarter-finals with his most authoritative performance of the tournament so far.

Murray played cleanly to beat 53rd-ranked Karen Khachanov of Russian Federation 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Next up for Murray is a rerun of his US Open quarter-final clash with Kei Nishikori, which the Japanese won, and third seed Stan Wawrinka is likely to be waiting if he can get through that.

After the match, Murray forsook the usual on-court match analysis to send condolences to those affected by recent terrorist attacks, and he afterwards elaborated on the global tennis community that had prompted his sentiments.

"It was a bad tragedy in London and also in Manchester only a few weeks ago", he said.

"It's something that's affected huge parts of Europe and all over the world. I'm grateful that I can come out and perform in front of you".

Third seed and 2014 runner-up Simona Halep charged into the French Open last eight on Monday with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.

The No. 3-seeded Wawrinka edged French favorite and No. 15 seed Gael Monfils 7-5, 7-6 (7), 6-2, while Cilic benefited when opponent Kevin Anderson of South Africa retired trailing 3-6, 0-3. "Sorry that I don't remember much".

Roger Federer misses out injured, but Rafa Nadal, Andy Murray and defending champ Stan Wawrinka are all here.

Murray defeated 21-year-old Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and four minutes to register his 650th match win of his career.

While the United Kingdom was on his mind, so was the improvement in his game over the past week and it's a confident world No.1 that heads into the quarters against Kei Nishikori.

Murray and Soares were the highest seeds left in the tournament and had harboured hopes of adding Roland Garros to their Australian and US Open trophies from previous year.

Murray was already picking up the huge deliveries of Khachanov, and he worked a break-point chance with one such cracking return of serve, and broke for 4-2 as the Russian put a forehand wide. Playing for the first time against the Russian, he made only one unforced error in the first set. The 290th-ranked Martic was leading 5-2 and 30-0 on Svitolina's serve in the deciding set.

He broke again for 2-1 in the second set and the only real blip came three games later when Khachanov broke back.
