Deputy AG Rosenstein set for budget hearing Tuesday

US President Donald Trump is supposedly thinking about dismissing Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed by the Department of Justice to lead the Russian Federation probe, according to Christopher Ruddy, a close friend of the president and Newsmax CEO.

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller attends the ceremonial swearing-in of his successor, James Comey, at the FBI headquarters in 2013.

President Donald Trump speaks on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, Monday, June 12, 2017, during a ceremony honoring the 2016 NCAA Football National Champions Clemson University Tigers.

In an interview on CNN's "New Day", Ruddy said, "I think it is a consideration the President has had because Mueller is illegitimate as special counsel". If Sessions did recuse himself, it would fall to Rosenstein to fire the guy who he'd appointed weeks earlier.

Comey responded to the President's mention of the Russian Federation investigation.

In a tweet on Monday, former House speaker Newt Gingrich wrote, "Republicans are delusional if they think the special counsel is going to be fair". Sure, Trump had made his displeasure with the existence of a special counsel clear.

Rosenstein's testimony comes amid public statements from Trump confidants that the American president is mulling removing Mueller from the investigation.

Rosenstein was testifying hours ahead of a separate Senate appearance by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was expected to face sharp questions from his former colleagues about his role in Comey's firing, his Russian contacts during the campaign and his decision to step aside from the investigation involving Moscow and the Trump campaign.

The Deputy Attorney General also said he would not follow any orders to fire special counsel Mueller unless there is a good reason and the orders are lawful.

"I think the best case for the President is to be vindicated by allowing this investigation to go on thoroughly and independently". Rosenstein would be the one to fire Mueller, which he repeatedly assured senators Tuesday he would not consider without "good cause".

White House correspondent April Ryan, of American Urban Radio Networks, went on CNN on Monday night and told host Erin Burnett that there is "mass hysteria" in the White House over the possibility of firing the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director. Gingrich said he is troubled by Democratic donations of Mueller's picks to help lead the probe. Ruddy said he thought firing Mueller would be a "significant mistake". "He is being advised by many people not to do it", the source said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

"Look, the president of the United States, as we all know, is a unitary executive. I think he's weighing that option". But Sekulow added that he "can't imagine the issue is going to arise".

White House officials sought to downplay Ruddy's comments.

Regarding Ruddy's comments, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said: "Mr".
