Former UFC Fighter Tim Hague in Critical Condition Following KO Loss in Boxing Match

Tim Hague, right, made a decision to swap the UFC cage for a boxing ring The Canadian fighter's friends and family are at his bedside as he fights for his life. Braidwood (8-1, 7 KOs) hit Hague clean on the head and when the 10-year mixed martial arts veteran fell flat onto his back, his head bounced violently off the canvas.

Former UFC heavyweight Tim Hague died at the age of 33 on Sunday, following a knockout loss in a boxing match on Friday.

In a video post promoting the June 16 fight, Hague said he stepped up to fight Braidwood with only "a few weeks notice" as Braidwood didn't have an opponent.

Jackie Neil, Hague's sister, told SportsNet.ca that her brother was still in critical condition as of Saturday night.

Hague's family released a statement regarding his passing on Sunday afternoon. "He was surrounded by family, listening to his favorite songs".

"The 6ft 4", 265lb Hague joined the UFC in 2009 after compiling a solid 9-1 record and would instantly rack up a submission win over Pat Barry, but his time in the Octagon is most remembered for his next fight, when he suffered a brutal seven second KO loss to Todd Duffee.

Cody Krahn, a good friend of Hague's, said the fighter underwent emergency surgery to "relieve pressure from his brain bleeding".

Ricky Hatton is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1997 to 2012. "We will miss him with so greatly", Neil wrote.

But it was backstage in the dressing room where Hague's main issues began, as the fighter soon began to fall desperately ill in the aftermath of the event.

Neil says in her statement that Hague's immediate family is now with him, and that they are asking for prayers and privacy at this bad and hard time.
