Controversial new US ambassador arrives in Israel official

New US ambassador to Israel David Friedman and Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch pray at the Western Wall the holiest site where

A top House Republican is criticizing President Trump's national security adviser for declining to clarify the White House position on the location of the Western Wall.

"No Israeli leaders will join President Trump at the Western Wall", H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, said Tuesday at a briefing for reporters ahead of Trump's Middle Eastern and European tour next week. The White House was forced to disavow comments by a USA official planning Trump's stop who claimed the Western Wall was in the West Bank, and not a part of Israeli territory.

First, it was revealed that Israel was the source of the sensitive information that President Trump disclosed to the Russians during their meeting.

The exchange, reported by Israel's Channel 2 television, is threatening to create a fierce diplomatic storm as Israel gets ready for a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump later this week. His inner core of top advisors was populated with enthusiastic proponents of expanding Israeli settlements in the West Bank and, in a highly-contested move, the president appointed a very partisan David Friedman as ambassador to Israel.

"It will advance it by righting a historical wrong and by shattering the Palestinian fantasy that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel", Netanyahu said. They do not reflect the United States position, and certainly not the President's position, " CNN quoted White House statement. Jewish groups in the.S. voiced concern about Mr. Trump's commitment to Israel.

However, the worldwide community, including the United States, does not recognize Israel's annexation of east Jerusalem, which the Palestinians seek as the capital of a future independent state.

His remarks came a day after a diplomatic spat opened between USA and Israeli officials over Trump's planned stop at the site next week.

Trump's controversial new ambassador also presented his credentials to the Israeli president at a ceremony in Jerusalem.

Israel objected and sought to make it a public visit with Netanyahu escorting him, which U.S. diplomats rejected, with one noting Israel doesn't have sovereignty over the Western Wall.

He has also advocated moving the embassy to Jerusalem.

Friedman, who visited the Western Wall after his arrival on Monday, said Trump had given him "the unequivocal and unambiguous mandate to support the state of Israel in every way and in all ways".

The Western Wall, in east Jerusalem's Old City, is the remnant of the ancient temple, destroyed more than 2,000 years ago.

Trump is reportedly planning to visit the Western Wall in occupied East Jerusalem's Old City during his visit.

Rivlin called on the "whole world to recognise Jerusalem as the official capital of the state of Israel".
