Instagram adding location and hashtag-based Stories

Horizontal Still 2

One of the core features of Snapchat is Stories, a collection of pictures and videos that are live for 24 hours and visible to a user's followers.

Any Snapchat user can create their own Story, but now they'll be able to invite their contacts to post to a shared Story as well. Instagram is rolling out stories in the Explore tab, which contain a mishmash of Stories tagged with a certain location or hashtag.

If you use a location sticker or a hashtag in your story, you may be included in the larger story.

Custom Stories can be created about anything, and with any of your friends. If you use hashtags and location tags, and Instagram happens to need that content, your media can be added for the entire Instagram community to view it.

Snapchat just announced a new feature, and it tapped three of the most handsome women in the world to spread the word.

Snapchat has come under heavy pressure from Facebook in recent months, after the social networking giant adopted several features similar to Snapchat's core functions across its apps, including Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.

"In the same note, White wrote that Snap has estimated that 25% of daily active users post a Story each day and each available platform caters to niche users".

Snapchatters can find the new feature by swiping to the Stories page, tapping the "Create Story" button on the top-right, and naming their group story.

Location-based story rings also show up when you search for a location, but they don't show up for all locations. But once you do submit it, Snapchat will look at the text captions, emojis, stickers, lenses, geolocation, and meta data plus use machine vision to detect objects or scenes in the Snap to algorithmically index it for search.

There will be more to the story, so be sure to stay tuned for that.
