Fox News finds itself in an unaccustomed spot _ out of first

As Trump unravels, so do Fox's ratings

MSNBC's weekday prime averaged 2.44 million, just barely edging out Fox News' 2.40 million and leaving CNN in last place with 1.65 million.

The week of May 15 kicked off with the bombshell that President Donald Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian diplomats, followed the next day with a report that he urged then-FBI Director James Comey to drop an investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The NBA playoffs made TNT the week's most popular cable network.

For adults aged 25-54, MSNBC averaged 611,000 viewers.

Imagine TheBlaze TV with founder Glenn Beck, O'Reilly and Hannity anchoring a prime-time lineup, as they did for Fox News from 2008 to 2011. Fox News viewers may still be expecting more substance in prime time.

Other MSNBC shows finishing first in their respective time slots were "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" and "The 11 Hour with Brian Williams". "It doesn't look like [Fox] has a plan", replied Mr O'Reilly, a ratings-topping Fox host, who was sacked last month after a wave of sexual-harassment allegations against him set off a boycott by advertisers.

CNN came in second in the key demographic with 589,000 viewers, while Fox News ranked third for the first time in 17 years, with 497,000 viewers ages 25 to 54. Fox snared 884,000 viewers between 25 and 54, compared with 729,000 for CNN and 444,000 for MSNBC.

To be fair, Fox isn't losing viewers - for now it's just bragging rights to No. 1 that are in play.

Fox News points out they're still in the lead for the month overall, while CNN notes they remain in the lead during daytime.

"I do cable news in kind of a weird way".

Carlson's decline at 8 p.m. must be especially troubling for Fox News executives since it's a valuable time slot the network absolutely dominated for more than a decade with O'Reilly at the helm.

Fox's Shepard Smith had the most-watched hour of the evening while pre-empting "The Five" at 9 p.m. ET with live coverage of the terror attack, with 3.31 million total viewers and 926,000 in the key demographic.

"For first time this century, they aren't in first place", noted MSNBC's Joe Scarborough last week.

Anti-Trump viewers have been flocking to programs where they can see hosts - on late-night comedy as well as the news - who share their frustration or anger over the administration.
